The ancestors of today's Florida Cracker Cattle were Spanish stock brought to the New World by the Spanish Explorers in the 1500's. The cattle were left behind when the explorers moved on and survived by adapting to the rugged terrain and harsh climate of the Florida scrub. They are smaller than many other breeds with beautiful horns used for foraging through the thick brush. Over the centuries they have become great survivalists, a hearty heat - and parasite tolerant breed. Their colors range from vibrant solid reds and blacks to unique spotted mixtures to roans and blues. The birth of a new calf is always a surprise because of the wide range of genetic color possibilities. Over the centuries Cracker Cattle were cross bred with beefier cattle such as Angus until there were only a few thousand left which were pure enough to be culled and bred to maintain this Florida specific breed. Our cattle are of McMullen stock from the Payne's Prairie herd as well as from the state herds at Kissimmee and Withlacoochee. We became breeders to help propagate these historically significant animals and offer them for sale to others who would like to own a piece of Florida history and start a herd of their own.
